In the press: L'Yonne Républicaine visits Les Ateliers Vau Fontaine

A lovely surprise this month: Vincent Thomas, a journalist at L'Yonne Républicaine, paid us a visit ahead of our open day in June. The result? A portrait that touches us deeply.
He describes Les Ateliers Vau Fontaine as a house of craft excellence, the antithesis of industry, designing and making fine furniture shaped entirely by hand, far from the disposable and the standardised.
We are delighted that he picked up on our vision of wood: that of the Japanese Kodama, the philosophy in which wood remains alive even after felling. A tree continues to “live” in the structure it inhabits; its wood moves and reacts according to the cut and the orientation it had as it grew. Our craft is not to tame wood, but to respect what it once was.
Finally, Vincent highlights our pure, minimalist design. In an increasingly complicated, difficult and sometimes even “fake” world, it is good and soothing to surround yourself with simplicity, restraint and authenticity.
Thank you to Vincent Thomas for this kind look at our work.
